There are so many beaches in the Tahoe area, sometimes it’s hard to decide where to go. One of my favorites and the one closest to me is Zephyr Cove Resort and Beach. It’s a great place to spend one of your free days or those important yet so infrequent days off from work. The Resort has a ton of activities to offer. These activities include: relaxing with friends on the beach, swimming, all types of watercraft rentals, volleyball along with a great snack bar. The Resort also includes a campground with various types of camping options.
The beach has a separate section for dogs, so if you’re not looking for a water or sand shower from one of the dogs you can spend your time in the dog free section of the beach near the volleyball courts. If you include the dog beach, it’s actually pretty lengthy at about 1 mile long so depending where you want to post up you generally will have a decent amount of space. From the beach you get the beautiful view of Lake Tahoe along with the snow covered mountains of the Sierras. Mount Tallac is probably the most noticeable as you peer across the lake south and west.
I spent my latest Sunday afternoon relaxing at the Zephyr Cove Beach with several of my friends. We posted up at the dog beach as my dog Jillian came along. It was a beautiful afternoon, a little windy, but nothing that would stop us from spending the afternoon there. We threw the football a bit and even threw around the baseball, which I hadn’t done probably for several years. Jillian found a friend and played keep-away, while the rest of us chatted and hung out. The water is still a slightly cold, so no one was really bold enough to swim. Below are some pictures from the gorgeous day. Enjoy!
As I mentioned above about boating, you can rent powerboats, waverunners, pedal boats, kayaks, canoes or paddleboards from the beach. To find pricing for these rentals, go here. Not only can you rent however, you can spend a nice day or evening out on the lake by purchasing tickets for the M.S. Dixie or the Woodwind II. They have some spectacular cruises, so if you haven’t experienced them yet, it’s well worth it to do so.
The beach is located past Cave Rock if driving from Nevada towards South Lake on Highway 50 or just past Sam’s Place if driving from South Lake on Highway 50. You can either pay for parking in the parking lot at $8 per day or park on the side of Highway 50 for free. On a beautiful sunny day in the summer however, I’d suggest getting there early as the parking lot as well as Highway 50 tend to fill pretty quickly.
Zephyr Resort and Beach really is a great place to enjoy a full day, morning or afternoon. Have you been to Zephyr Resort and Beach? What other beaches around Tahoe do you like? Leave a comment below! Also, follow me on twitter @sberei!
