With summer officially arriving in about a month, there’s no better activity to do outside than spend a few hours on the golf course. There are several courses in Lake Tahoe and each has something different to offer. Bijou Golf Course on the south shore is a favorite of mine! It’s an inexpensive 9 hole course that’s rarely crowded and is a great way to spend an afternoon. If you don’t have much time or just want a quick outing, Bijou is definitely the course to play.
My girlfriend and I spent some time on the course in late afternoon one day this past week. It was a beautiful afternoon. When we got to the course, there was no one in front of us. We hopped right on and basically had the course to ourselves. There was only a twosome behind us about three holes back. Since I’ve been there in the past, I think they’ve actually done a great job cleaning and upgrading the course. There are still a few holes that don’t look complete, but when they are it’s going to be that much better. I was honestly surprised to see it in such great condition. The greens are still a little bare and bumpy, but the tees and fairways are in great shape. Below are some pictures from our time on the course. Enjoy!
The course is once again, 9 holes, 2,002 yards long and par 32. It’s more of an executive course with multiple par 3’s and no par 5’s. You can probably start gaining some ground on the first hole that is a short 310 yard, straight par 4. You’ll continue through a few par 3’s and 4’s until you reach hole 6 which is probably the toughest hole on the course. It’s a dogleg left leaving you a tough second approach shot. Coming into the clubhouse, hole 9 is a great par 3 hitting towards Lake Tahoe. While playing, the views of the mountains south are amazing.
Even more importantly the prices are cheap! You can play 9 or 18 holes. They have twilight rates as well as offer 20 and 10 use punch cards. You can also purchase pull carts.
Bijou is located in South Lake Tahoe off of Fairway Drive. If you are coming from the south shore Nevada side, you’ll follow Highway 50 past the Heavenly Village and make a left at the light at Fairway Drive. Bare to the right and the course is on your left. If coming from the South Lake side of town on Highway 50, you can just make a right onto Fairway Drive at the light. You can also get there from Pioneer Trail, but there are several back road turns and it’s easier from Highway 50.
I love spending time golfing Bijou because it’s rarely crowded and it gives me time to work on my game without feeling rushed. The course is also great if you don’t have much time because it’s not long and only 9 holes. Have you golfed Bijou? If so or if you have a favorite golf course in Lake Tahoe make a comment below!
